California's Strict Liability Dog Bite Law
Under California Civil Code Section 3342, dog owners are strictly liable for bites that occur in public places or when a victim is lawfully on private property, regardless of whether the dog had a history of aggression or the owner knew it was dangerous. You do not have to prove the owner was negligent. You only need to show the bite occurred and you were lawfully present.
